Umbwe Route has the notorious reputation of being the most challenging route on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is considered to be the shortest, steepest, and most direct approach to Uhuru Peak.
The Umbwe Route guarantees an epic thrilling adventure. It is perhaps the most challenging Kilimanjaro Route. Though it’s a steep uphill climb, the Umbwe route promises some breathtaking views of the ridges. After the first two days, the hiking trails eventually join with the Machame Route and Lemosho Route, and carry on up the Great Barranco Wall to Karanga Valley and Barafu Camp and finally the summit point of Uhuru Peak.
The Umbwe Route is the shortest and steepest route to Climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the most direct route on the mountain, it ascends steeply through the forest up to Barranco Camp on the south side. Therefore, it would be the hardest to adapt to in terms of acclimatization. The Kilimanjaro National Park designated this route to be a descent route some years ago. It offers an easier and quicker descent profile. Nowadays, it’s commonly used by porters to deliver food supplies up to Barranco Camp. Moreover, it can be a quiet retreat for people who are sick at either Barranco or Karanga Camp.
